Happy Halloween!

Here is one picture to show the fun we had today dissecting our pumpkins! Thanks to all who donated pumpkins or led a group today! The students were really suprised to see how many seeds are actually in a pumpkin! I hope you are able to enjoy a few seeds that were sent home!

Reminders for tomorrow:
- Salad Bar Lunch
- Return Take Home Reading envelopes

L à J- Numbers-
I can't seem to get my picture rotated, but yesterday marked another Record à vie for L à J les nombres! Five students also attained their personal Record à vie. Bravo! We will work hard together to get another Record à vie in orthographe.

Finally, I have asked that students bring in their favorite object. Today we started to draw the object, then we will create a model with playdough. Friday we will practice presenting our object to a friend. After the break we will then present to the class. This activity is developing the students French oral skills. The object will be sent home of Friday and then requested to be brought back to school after the break. Merci beaucoup!!

How to support your child with French?

Today you will notice a French phonics sheet that just explains a little bit about the French language. This may be of help when you are trying to help your child with the 55 words or with Take Home Reading.

As well, a parent passed on a useful app for those who are not fluent in French. It is called "Itranslate." Maybe something to check out if you struggle to help your child with their Take Home Reading!

Events this week:

Thursday- Lunch (Salad Bar)
Friday- Rememberance Day Assembly at 2:30

Have a great week!

Celebrating the past week and looking into the future!

Friday's Dress Up Day

Last Friday was exciting to see 12 of our students dress up with what they would like to be when they are older! I loved seeing them get into character, the doctors and nurses helping students with their cuts and scrapes and our security students supervising during recess time.

Record à vie/All time best- L à J

As well, last week was an exciting week with our highest score yet in our Numbers L à J. This marks our 3rd all time best in L to J Numbers. Bravo 1C!

So far in Spelling we have only had one all time best! I encourage you to continue to work the 55 words list at home. A great idea is choose 5 words from the list to work each week.

Here are some fun ways to work with words:

- Use fridge magnets to spell out the word.
- Spell the word out in a container of sand or salt.
- Write the word on someone's back.
- Create the word with playdough.

Whichever way you choose to work with words it is important the the students focus on the sounds they are learning and already know!

Can we get another all time best this week!? I think I love our dance party celebrations as much as the students do!

Take Home Reading

A reminder to please send Take Home Reading Envelopes on Monday's and Thursdays. Students are to read the same book throughout the time they have the envelope at home. They can read it to different people, or even in different ways! As well, when documenting the time I would love to have the time they read their french books documents seperately from the other books read. I am hoping to document their French reading at home here at school for incentives. Thanks in advance!

Halloween

Students are allowed to dress up for school next Wednesday, however we ask that all costumes be appropriate for school (no blood or gore). If your child is wearing a costume, please ensure that it is one that they are still able to go about their day normally. Again, thanks in advance!

Representing Numbers to 20 at Home

This week starting into Math Module 2: Representing numbers to 20. Below are some ideas of activities you may want to try at home. You are welcome to send a picture of your child completing any of these activities to share with the class!

-          Using small objects, ask your child to show you groups from 1 to 10 then later 11 to 20. Ex. Show me six. You can ask them to count the object for you in French.

-          Together, collect several sets of 8 of small objects. Ex. Keys, pasta etc. Ask your child to count the number in each set, in French. Ask your child, “How are these sets alike?” (All have 8).

-          With your child, collect sets of 11 to 20 objects (ex. 12 stuffies, 16 envelopes etc). Have your child count the objects then tell you how many are in each set.

-          Play “I spy” giving a number as a clue. (Ex. I spy with my little eye, something that has 4 legs….chair, table etc) As well get your child to give the clue to you! If you feel brave you may even want to try to say the number in French and get your child to guess the name of the object in French!

-          Your child can draw sets of items to match a given number, and then record the number on the page.

-          Use buttons, keys or other small objects and as you child to show the number 4 in different ways( Example 3 and 1, 4 together, 2 and 2)

Have fun!

Welcome to our blog!

Welcome to our 1C blog. Here I plan on keeping you updated with the happenings in 1C, as well as sharing ways that you can help at home.

A big thanks to all those who helped make Friday's "Chasse au trésor" a smashing success. The students really enjoyed using their mapping skills to find their treasure.
