Representing Numbers to 20 at Home

This week starting into Math Module 2: Representing numbers to 20. Below are some ideas of activities you may want to try at home. You are welcome to send a picture of your child completing any of these activities to share with the class!

-          Using small objects, ask your child to show you groups from 1 to 10 then later 11 to 20. Ex. Show me six. You can ask them to count the object for you in French.

-          Together, collect several sets of 8 of small objects. Ex. Keys, pasta etc. Ask your child to count the number in each set, in French. Ask your child, “How are these sets alike?” (All have 8).

-          With your child, collect sets of 11 to 20 objects (ex. 12 stuffies, 16 envelopes etc). Have your child count the objects then tell you how many are in each set.

-          Play “I spy” giving a number as a clue. (Ex. I spy with my little eye, something that has 4 legs….chair, table etc) As well get your child to give the clue to you! If you feel brave you may even want to try to say the number in French and get your child to guess the name of the object in French!

-          Your child can draw sets of items to match a given number, and then record the number on the page.

-          Use buttons, keys or other small objects and as you child to show the number 4 in different ways( Example 3 and 1, 4 together, 2 and 2)

Have fun!
